Spring break offers teams game action

Coach Jody Britt is finding ways to keep the Starkville Academy baseball team in competition over spring break.
Before the Volunteers traveled to Ridgeland to play two tough games during the midweek, he worked out a visit to French Camp on Monday to play coach Nathan Wright's Panthers.
The Volunteers defeated French Camp 9-7 when left fielder Drake Gordman threw to catch Noah Heflin for an out at the plate. They were supposed to play South Jones on Tuesday, but it wasn't played due to inclement weather.
Even though Starkville Academy lost to Hartfield and Brookhaven Academy on Wednesday in Ridgeland, Britt said the experience gained will go a long way in helping his team.
"It's a good week for us and I was not real interested in going undefeated, but we've got to start playing better," Britt said. "If we had played better in all of our games, we'd be in a lot better situation than we are now."
The Vols have a 3-8 record going into Tuesday.
