The belief that Starkville baseball coach Travis Garner has in Tyler Barnes is beginning to pay off.
After watching Barnes struggle at the plate during the early part of the season, Garner watched as the Yellowjacket continued to work hard to improve his offensive game.
Barnes came up big on Tuesday with a single, double and home run to help SHS defeat the Madison Central Jaguars 11-4 in a Class 6A, Region 3 game.
"He was a guy who played a lot last year and even since I've been here, he's struggled," Garner said of Barnes. "He's worked hard at it. I told him last week that I still believe in you and you are going to get hot for a period of time and lead the club. I think he has five hits in two games and has hit a ball out of the yard. He needs to stay hot because he's a big difference in the order."
