There was an outstanding pitching performance at Yellowjacket Stadium/Carlisle Field Tuesday night.
Unfortunately for the home team Starkville, it was not in the form of one of its own hurlers.
Instead, it was Columbus’ Hunter Mullis, who had a six-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts.
Add in strong batting and in the end, the Falcons left town with a 13-0 victory.
“That is as good a pitching performance as I have seen in years,” Starkville coach Travis Garner said. “He hit the mitt with three pitches. He was mixing it up. He didn’t get in a rhythm. Just overall, he was very, very good.
“We didn’t play well, but we have to understand that it is one game. They don’t get to carry any of the runs over to Friday and we have to come out ready for the next game.”
