Learning the 411 about IRAs

The term “IRA” is a familiar one to most people, but ask for an explanation from the average person, and there the waters muddy a bit. An Individual Retirement Arrangement (or Individual Retirement Account) is simply a vehicle for accumulating money for retirement. The actual type of account tagged with the IRA title can vary. For instance, an IRA might consist of mutual funds, annuities, CDs or other financial tools. Regardless of the details of where the money in an IRA is held, there are three types of IRAs: Traditional, Roth and Rollover.
