Starkville Sanitation and Environmental Services Director Emma Gandy spent close to an hour on the hot seat before the city’s Audit and Budget Committee Thursday afternoon.
Gandy entered the first of several planned committee meetings meant to structure the city’s 2014-15 budget to plead for more revenue for her department. Not only did the committee of three aldermen — Chairman Scott Maynard of Ward 5, Vice Mayor Roy A. Perkins of Ward 6 and Lisa Wynn of Ward 2 — outright deny her their support for more revenue, they even floated the idea of farming out the department’s services either in part or in whole.
