Four teams out of Class 6A, Region 1, District 2 qualified for the state golf tournament on Wednesday.
Starkville High School just missed being on of those squads.
The Yellowjackets shot a 353 as a team and were edged out of fourth place by Grenada, which finished 11 strokes better with a 342.
Desoto Central scored a 293 to capture first place in the region, while Tupelo was second with a 294 and Hernando came in third with a 325. Olive Branch came in behind Starkville's total with a 370.
"We didn't pan out like I really thought we would have, but my hat is off to the four (that qualified)," SHS boys golf coach Sam Bryant said. "They've got scores that are quality scores so they earned it more so than we did."
