It worked in football so the French Camp Panthers decided to try it in another sport.
French Camp coach Nathan Wright saw how playing a tough non-region schedule helped his football team last fall. He thought the same plan might benefit the baseball team.
Wright was right.
The Panthers ran the table and finished undefeated in Class A, Region 6 with a 6-0 record. They swept Sebastopol last week 5-2 and 6-2 to complete the region schedule and claim the title.
"We've played some pretty good competition and kind of did what we did football-wise where we played some 2A's and 3A's," Wright said. "I thought it would help us get ready for district play. I didn't think we'd have a really good record because we were playing the bigger schools, but we played and really competed, played well and won a lot of those games."
French Camp has an overall record of 12-4.
