Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for Mrs. Lola Marie Tyner, 96, of Starkville, who died on April 19, 2014. Interment will be in Boone Cemetery at Oak Grove, with Bro. Bob Burge and Bro. Charles Herring officiating.
Mrs. Boone was a graduate of Purvis High School and Draughnâ€™s Business College in Hattiesburg, and worked for Lamar Co. Superintendent of Education.Â In 1936 she married Fred H. Tyner, Sr.Â Mrs. Tyner worked at Camp Shelby during the last two years of WWII for the U.S. Army Signal Corps., and also worked for Fine Bros. Matison in Hattiesburg for 35 years until retirement.Â She loved reading, gardening, and living on a farm, and took up oil painting at the age of 75 and was a good and prolific artist.Â She was a long-time member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist (Burnt Bridge) Church and moved to Starkville following Hurricane Katrina and lived independently for five years before the need for daily care.
Mrs. Boone is preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Florence Davis Boone; husband, Fred H. Tyner, Sr.; sister, Hazel Boone (and husband George R.) Randall; great grand-daughter, Perry Jane Tyner Tate.
She is survived by her son, Fred (Jane) Tyner, Jr. of Starkville; grandsons, William Ellis (Joy) Tyner of Clinton; Charles Fredrick (Angie) Tyner of Collierville, TN; great grandchildren, Molly Ellis Tyner of Clinton, John Luke Tyner, Ryan Ellis Tyner, and Charles Logan Tyner, all of Collierville, TN; great grandson-in-law, Rev. Garon Tate of Clinton; nieces, Patricia Randall Hunt and Leslie Randall Hankin, both of Purvis; and nephew, Richard Henry Randall of Seattle, WA.
The family expresses sincere gratitude to Mrs. Lynn McClelland (RN) and Mrs. Brooke Salley (RN) and the wonderful and caring ladies of Brooklyn Hall Personal Care Home at Mathiston, MS where Mrs. Tyner has been a resident for the last two-and-a-half years.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, beginning at 1:00 p.m.until service time at 3:00 p.m. that day. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Baptist Childrenâ€™s Village or other charity of choice. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Richton was in charge of the arrangements.
