SMITH COLUMN: MSU softball seniors prove worth during game
The seven Mississippi State seniors will be honored today for the contributions they made to the softball program.
On Saturday, those players showed how valuable they can be.
Several seniors had a part in the 18-7 victory by the Bulldogs over the Arkansas Razorbacks at the MSU Softball Stadium.
Sam Lenahan may have had the biggest impact of the senior group when she blasted a second-inning grand slam home run that ignited a 10-run inning. Lenahan finished with the four RBI on two hits and scored a pair of runs.
There was enough production to go around for the other seniors as Logan Foulks had three hits and also drove in four runs, Jessica Offutt had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run, Heidi Shape had an RBI and scored twice.
In the pitching department, Alison Owen got the win with 3 2/3 innings of work with only one run and two hits given up, while Shana Sherrod was given an opportunity in the circle and recorded an out.
The only senior that did not play on Saturday was Rachael Zdeb, but it's very likely she will get on the field today.
Any recognition the seniors receive will be a much-deserved gesture.
