Board OKs annexation study

May 7, 2014

During a brief open session Tuesday evening at City Hall, Starkville aldermen unanimously approved requesting proposals from qualified vendors to conduct an annexation study for the city.

Mayor Parker Wiseman estimated the study would cost the city between $10,000 and $20,000 and, at minimum, would look at all property the city could annex and recommend to the board where annexation would be most feasible. From there, Wiseman said a more in-depth study would better estimate the cost of providing city services to the recommended areas compared to the tax base increase.
