Kate Mattox, Henderson, Ross claim top in state

PEARL – The Starkville High School Yellowjackets were able to bring home four individual Class 6A State championships after their performance at the state meet on Saturday.
Leading the way was freshman Kate Mattox, who won two events. She finished first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:06.04, then also captured the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:09.22.
Alex Ross finished on top of the 1,600-meter run on the boys side with a time of 4:33.18, while Charlie Henderson won the pole vault with a mark of 13-6.
In other results for SHS, Ross came in fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:06.11, Ralesheia Gee was third in the long jump with a leap of 17-11.5, and Walker Mattox was fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:58.88 and fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:28.83.
