SMITH COLUMN: Hard work pays off for Lady Wolverines

May 17, 2014

The formula for winning state championships is really very simple for the East Webster Lady Wolverines.
If the Lady Wolverines show up for practice and work hard, success usually follows.
East Webster coach Lee Berryhill said the motto for the team is "do what we do."
"It's do your job," Berryhill said. "You don't worry about anyone else, but do your job. We've done a great job of that all year."
The Lady Wolverines have bought into that way of thinking and it has led to their second-consecutive Class 2A Fast Pitch State championship. East Webster defeated Taylorsville 12-4 on Saturday to claim the title.
With a 30-2 record, it's amazing to consider what kind of season the Lady Wolverines just had.
The thing that makes it even more impressive is the fact there are no seniors on the ball club. East Webster's softball program remains in tact for another run at a state championship next year.
