Pellum enjoys All-State year with M-Delta

May 22, 2014

After missing his senior baseball season with an ACL injury, Drew Pellum could see his collegiate career slipping away.
Waiting in the wings though was Mississippi Delta Community College, which took a risk in signing the former Starkville Academy athlete.
That was not the only leap of faith MDCC coach Michael Avalon engaged in with Pellum.
“We really took a chance on Drew out of high school,” Avalon said. “He had torn his ACL and we were the only ones who offered him, then we brought him in and changed his arm slot from over the top to submarine.”
So not only was Pellum adjusting to facing “live batters” and “throwing strikes” once more, the college freshman was working to completely change his delivery of the ball. It was no easy task, but after a little while, Pellum said the switch to sidearm began to feel normal and he could even see an improvement in his game.
