SMITH COLUMN: It will take more than good crowds for MSU to host regional this year

May 24, 2014

Smith

There are 15,586 reasons for the NCAA baseball selection committee to consider the Mississippi State Bulldogs for a regional host site this year.
That was the NCAA on-campus record attendance set earlier this season when the Bulldogs hosted the Ole Miss Rebels on April 12.
MSU fans continue to show the nation that when it comes to supporting baseball, no one does it better. Dudy Noble Field saw crowds of 10,000 or better four times this season.
Even though rewarding the Bulldogs with a regional in Starkville has to be tempting for the NCAA because of the attendance figures that continue to impress, it's not likely Mississippi State will be one of the 16 teams that will get that opportunity when the sites are announced tonight.
