MABEN – Baseball season was not about the big names at East Webster.
Instead coach Wes Johnson said it was all about the teamwork and the fight that existed inside his Wolverine athletes.
“We don’t have any superstars, but we got a bunch of scrappy players that are really learning the game and are really figuring out what to do to win baseball games,” Johnson said.
The battle exhibited by East Webster this season led the team to an undefeated Class 2A, Region 2 record en route to a first place position in the postseason.
“That is what you look for is consistency,” Johnson said. “I had looked at the bracket and knew ahead of time it benefited you to be the division winner. You play every game to win. We did a lot of things right during the division and made a lot of key plays. We did the little things well.”
