County prepares for runoff election

Mississippians will head to the polls again on June 24 to vote in a statewide Republican U.S. Senate primary runoff between incumbent U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran and challenger Mississippi Sen. Chris McDaniel.

McDaniel narrowly edged Cochran Tuesday with 49.5 percent of the vote to Cochran’s 49 percent, according to the Associated Press. Thomas L. Carey, a third candidate, pulled in 1.5 percent of the vote.
