Jacob Lindgren may not have to wait a couple of seasons to make it to the big league team.
The Mississippi State junior left hander was drafted 55th overall by the New York Yankees during Thursday's First-Year Player Draft.
"I am humbled and grateful to be darted by the New York Yankees," Lindgren said in a school release. "This is an incredible feeling and a day I will remember for the rest of my life. I would like to thank Mississippi State University, my coaches, teammates and the greatest fans in college baseball for helping me reach this point."
The Bay St. Louis native will have until July 18 to make up his mind about going professional or returning to Starkville for his senior season. He will more than likely forgo the latter and start his professional baseball career.
That may be a good thing.
Many national baseball writers believe the southpaw will be with the Yankees in New York before this season is over.
