Rusty Johnson batted leadoff for the Eupora Eagles this past season, but he did much more than lead them at the plate.
With his strong presence both on and off the field, the soon to be senior proved to be one of the true weapons for the Eagles and earned himself the title of Starkville Daily News High School Baseball Area Player of the Year.
“The sky is the limit for Rusty,” former Eupora coach Brad Mitchell said. “He is a weapon on the field. He can run. He can pitch in a big ballgame. He is also good defensively. He was our No. 1 in the lineup and on the mound, but we also felt we were at our best defensively when he was in the field.”
