While in school, nearly every American child learns about the Emancipation Proclamation and the critical role it played during the Civil War. However, many people do not know about the Juneteenth holiday that is an annual celebration that commemorates the announcement of emancipation in Texas on June 19, 1865.

People of Purpose and the Juneteenth Celebration Committee hope to change that by informing people about the holiday and its history when they host the first Juneteenth Celebration and Multi-Cultural Arts Festival in Starkville June 19-21.
