Honors keep coming for MSU's Lindgren

June 11, 2014

Mississippi State's Jacob Lindgren's junior year in baseball just keeps getting better.
The left-handed pitcher was selected to Baseball America's All-American team and was a second team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America as announced on Tuesday.
Lindgren was also selected to the All-Southeastern Conference first team in May.
The Bay St. Louis native was the opening day starter in 2013, but an injury hampered his ability. He never recovered and wasn't a factor down the stretch for the Bulldogs' run to the College World Series national championship series.
MSU head coach John Cohen and pitching coach Butch Thompson moved Lindgren to the bullpen and altered his throwing motion.
The move paid off as Lindgren went 6-1 with a team-low 0.81 earned run average. He recorded 100 strikeouts in just 55 1/3 innings tossed in relief.
This honor comes on the heels of Lindgren being drafted 55th overall by the New York Yankees in last week's First-Year Player Draft.
It was reported by YES Network's Jack Curry that Lindgren was traveling to Tampa Bay, Fla., on Thursday for a physical with the Yankees. If all goes well, Lindgren should sign a deal soon with New York.
"I don't think it's going to take long at all for Lindgren to get to the big leagues," Perfect Game's Kendall Rogers said.
Lindgren is a finalist for both the Olson Award, given to the breakout player of the year, and the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, awarded annually to the best relief pitcher in college baseball.
He was a finalist for the C Spire Ferriss Trophy, handed to Mississippi's top college baseball player.
