Mississippi State's Brandon Woodruff and Brett Pirtle officially signed with their respective Major League Baseball teams on Wednesday.
Woodruff signed with the Milwaukee Brewers in Montana, while Pirtle signed with the Detroit Tigers.Â
Woodruff was taken in the 11th round, 326th overall, by the Brewers. It was the second time he had been drafted. The Wheeler native was taken in the fifth round by the Texas Rangers out of high school in 2011.Â
Woodruff has struggled with injuries during his Bulldog career. He started the opener against Western Carolina, but never factored in as a starter when Southeastern Conference play started. He went 1-3 with a 6.75 earned run average.Â
Pirtle was taken with the 700th overall pick in the 23rd round by the Tigers. The Tyler, Texas, native batted .363 in his final year with MSU. In his two seasons with the Bulldogs, Pirtle had a career batting average of .337 and totaled 158 hits.
