Volunteers sought for CERT Olympics

June 18, 2014

Many times, Mississippi State University’s Maroon Volunteer Center seeks volunteers to help people recover from disasters. But this weekend, they are looking for people willing to volunteer act as victims in a series of mock disasters.

Meggan Franks, assistant director for student leadership and community engagement at MSU, said once volunteers signed up, they could be assigned to any number of misfortunes: fires, tornadoes, broken arms, broken legs and even death. The danger may not be real, she said, but it represents a real test for Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) from MSU and across the state.
