BOA approves rezone for Sonic

June 18, 2014

A unanimous Starkville Board of Aldermen vote made way for one of Starkville’s Sonic locations to get its first major facelift in more than 40 years.

The board voted Tuesday evening to accept a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to rezone property at 711 Vine St., just south of the Sonic restaurant located at 302 East Highway 12, from R-3 (multi-family residential) to B-1 (buffer). The rezone will allow RLM Sonic Properties to replace its existing 23-bay facility with a 10-bay restaurant that will include a double drive-thru. A portion of the Vine Street lot will house one of the drive-thrus, a menu board and employee parking. The lot has sat vacant since 2002, when a house that stood on it was torn down.
