Polls open today for runoffs - High voter turnout expected for U.S. Senate primary race

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today for the Republican Senate runoff between six-term incumbent Thad Cochran and challenger, State Senator Chris McDaniel.

Although Cochran held a firm majority in the county— 2,753 votes (66.59 percent) to McDaniel’s 1,353 (32.73 percent)— at the statewide level, results were less decided. According to the Associated Press, McDaniel’s 155,040 votes (49.5 percent) only slightly led Cochran’s 153,654 (49 percent).
