City recalls school money - Mayor takes responsibility for mistake

July 3, 2014

Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman took full responsibility on Wednesday for funds the city errantly sent to Starkville School District in April, adding that he had already taken steps to retrieve the money.

The city issued SSD a check for $474,081.63 in surplus funds collected from 20-year school construction/renovation bonds issued in 1986. At least one alderman, Vice Mayor Roy A. Perkins of Ward 6, took issue with city administration having sent the check without board approval.
