The Dizzy Dean 7-year-old South State Tournament started off well for the Eupora All-Stars with a walk-off victory over Newton County, but the day didn't end well because of a loss to Louisville at McKee Park.
In the first game, Eupora out-slugged Newton County 22-21 with a six-run sixth inning.
Eupora won when Eli Clarke scored the winning run on a base hit by Jacob Surma.
With the score tied at 16-16, Newton County scored five runs in the sixth to jump out to a 21-16 advantage.
The big top of the inning didn't rattle Eupora as it came right back with the six-spot to take the win.
Jacob Crimm and Landry Winter scored four runs each for Eupora.
Louisville scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the win.
After Louisville jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, Eupora came right back as Crimm, Winter and Carson Swindle scored to tie the game.
Louisville secured its three-run advantage once again with one run in the second and two more in the third.
Eupora was able to get a run back in the third, but Louisville added a cushion with four runs in the fourth to take a 10-4 lead.
Despite making up some ground with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, Eupora could not keep Louisville from getting the five runs it needed to end the game in the sixth.
Other than Crimm, Winter and Swindle, Mitchell Turner, Dillon Coleman, Ames Conrad and Dale Britt scored one run each in the game for Eupora.
Eupora will start its second day at the state tournament with an 11 a.m. matchup today against Greenwood.
