Fourth of July fireworks came a bit early for the Starkville Nationals 7-year-old coach pitch team, which opened the Dizzy Dean South State Tournament with a 12-2 victory over Choctaw County.
"First and foremost this team has come together a lot in the past week," Starkville Nationals coach Allan Smith said. "We've worked on defense, base-running which was key for (Friday) and to their credit, they have gotten better and better each day. All in all, they did an outstanding job. We just have to keep it going."
