Champions.
At the end of the day there was one team standing in the Coach Pitch Dizzy Dean South State Championship Tournament, and after defeating Louisville 17-2 the team that emerged victorious was Mathiston.
“They came out excited,” coach Darrell Fason said. “They were ready for it. To take a group of kids from a small town and hang in with these big kids means a lot.”
Right from the beginning it was clear Mathiston did not plan to add a loss to their tournament record. In the top of the first Ethan Hillhouse, Stetson Perkins, Hardy Fason, Jordan Gaskin and Hunter Smith all touched home plate as the 7-year-old all-stars jumped out to a 5-0 advantage.
