Starkville Police Department is investigating reports of missing pets in connection with sightings of a fake animal control vehicle in the Greenbriar subdivision.

On July 2, Greenbriar residents reported to Starkville Animal Control that someone had opened several gates in the area and many dogs were missing from owners’ yards. They also reported seeing a white Ford Ranger with an “Animal Control” logo on it and a large cage in the bed of the truck.

SPD reports that, at this time, it appears all animals that had been missing from their yards have been returned to their owners with no reports of injuries. SPD issued a press release reminding citizens that the city has only one animal control vehicle, a white Ford F-150 with an enclosed bed for animal containment.

SPD asks citizens who see the vehicle described in the Greenbriar incident or witness any other suspicious incidents to call SPD at 323-4131.
