One Starkville family’s struggle against a rare, life-threatening disease has helped create a way for those who suffer from it around the world draw nearer to each other through social networking.

Shane Kinard Sr. and his daughter, Kristen, suffer from Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), genetic disease that can cause a number of very serious complications, including tumors, developmental delay, skin abnormalities and seizures. TSC is a known linchpin disease, because a number of other conditions can arise from its complications, such as epilepsy, autism and cancer.
