State of SHS athletics: Jackets fine-tune skills in summer

July 10, 2014

Miller

Starkville High School Athletic Director Stan Miller understands success in sports just doesn't come with work during the school year.
Miller has made the rounds this summer and has watched as several of the athletic teams under his care were taking part in activities to make improvements.
"You shift gears and it changes so radically," Miller said of what happens at the end of the school year and into the summer. "The days of playing a sport and letting it go has ended. Whether it's good or bad, it's a 12-month type thing.
"I was excited about the summer in getting around and watching the kids work, gaining strength and getting better."
