Mississippi State continues to fill its non-conference basketball slate.
It was announced Wednesday that the Bulldogs will participate in the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic at the American Bank Center. The event will take place during Thanksgiving week, Nov. 28-29. MSU opens the tournament against St. Louis. The Bulldogs will then either play TCU or Bradley.
St. Louis went 27-7 last year before being defeated by Louisville in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.Â
"I am excited to be a part of this tournament," MSU head coach Rick Ray said in a school release. "This challenge gives us an opportunity to prepare for SEC competition. Our first opponent, St. Louis, had an RPI of 27 last season and has been to the NCAA Tournament for three-straight years. Our players look forward to playing in this demanding tournament."
The Bulldogs and the Billikens have only met once, with St. Louis claiming a 63-46 win in 1950.
MSU will also play Oregon State, Florida State and Tulane in the upcoming season.Â
Stump added as men's
tennis assistant coach
Former four-year Bulldog letterwinner Tanner Stump will be returning home.
MSU announced that Stump will become an assistant coach for the men's tennis program. He was most recently an assistant coach at Furman University. He will officially begin his tenure on Aug. 1.
Stump joins first-year head coach Matt Roberts, who was the assistant before getting promoted with the departure of Per Nilsson.
"Tanner has proven he is one of the best assistant coaches in the country and we are honored to have him return to the Mississippi State tennis program," Roberts said in a school release. "I am very excited to start working with him and the team this fall."
Stump graduated from MSU in 2011, and along with being an assistant at Furman, he spent one year at Middle Tennessee State.Â
