MCDONOUGH, Ga. – The Northeast Mississippi Clippers beat the Mississippi Surge twice on Saturday, including an 8-0 shutout in the championship game, to win the United States Sports Speciality 12-Under World Series.
The Clippers, who went a perfect 6-0 for the week, are a team made up of Golden Triangle area players, mainly from Starkville, Eupora and Columbus.
Jack Perry, Cade Stacy and Banks Hyde of the Clippers made the USSSA World Series All-Tournament team, while Payton Springfield was chosen the Most Valuable Player.
Earlier in the day, the Clippers won a 4-2 decision over the Surge in the semifinals.
Springfield threw a five-inning complete game on the mound for the Clippers.
"He threw really well," Clippers coach Jay Perry said. "He's a hard throwing right hander with a dominating fastball in the mid 70s from 50 feet and a really good breaking ball."
