The Pontotoc Red Sox began their quest in the cold of January and ended in the warmth of July.
In between, they improved and ended up winning a World Series championship.
The Red Sox, a United States Sports Specialty Association Under-10 travel team made up of players from various parts of north Mississippi, won the USSA Under-10 AAA Global World Series in Orange Beach, Ala., on July 8-12.
"It was a great experience for our young men," Pontotoc coach Jeremy Wise said. "They worked hard all year. It was a tough year, but finally their hard work paid off at the end and it was a great accomplishment for them. It was nothing to do with us as coaches. It was the fact they worked hard and finally saw the fruits of their labors."
