Starkville Academy soccer coach Cole Andrews asked his players to do one thing before their game Thursday.
Coming off a "tough" loss to Lamar Academy, the coach urged the Lady Volunteers to put it all behind them as they prepared to face Bayou Academy in game two.Â
"We talked at practice that we have to put those games behind us," Andrews said. "It was tough, but we have the whole season ahead of us. The season is in their hands."
The SA players took the request seriously and Andrews was "encouraged" with a 8-0 victory against Bayou.
Senior leader Anna McKell was the first to strike giving the Lady Vols an early 1-0 advantage.
McKell then teamed up with teammate Addison Gordon, who hit the net from the front of the goal as SA jumped out to a two-goal lead.
The Lady Vols third goal came once again from McKell who joined forces with Jacey Williams to score from the front of the box.
Williams picked up a goal of her own as the junior put the ball in the net with a bit of assistance from Aubree Campbell.
As the first half continued, McKell secured her final goal as the Lady Vols cruised out to a 5-0 lead.
"I pulled Anna aside at the beginning and told her 'you can take control,'" Andrews said. "She said 'I'll do it' and she did."
