Committee: No pay raises for city employees

August 1, 2014

Starkville’s Budget and Audit Committee will not recommend raises for city employees for next fiscal year, but it will ask the Board of Aldermen to support the city continuing to pay 100 percent of employee health insurance costs.

The committee, consisting of Ward 5 Alderman Scott Maynard, Vice Mayor and Ward 6 Alderman Roy A. Perkins and Ward 2 Alderman Lisa Wynn, reached those recommendations during a meeting Thursday afternoon at City Hall. Maynard, who chairs the committee, said it would likely meet once more before presenting a full budget recommendation to the Board of Aldermen. The board must approve a budget for fiscal year 2014-15 by Sept. 15, and the new budget cycle begins Oct. 1.
