Today will seem like Christmas in August for Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell.
After 25 years in coaching, the first day of preseason practice still gets Mitchell excited.
"That's a good thing," Mitchell said. "I told my wife (Thursday) that I feel like a 5-year-old on Christmas Eve. You can't wait for it to get here. There is so much anticipation about this year and excitement.
"It's our home when you get on the field. You feel like that's where you need to be. We're ready."
The Yellowjacket coaching staff spent last week going to meetings and those meetings involved three new assistants in offensive coordinator David Boykin, Kevin Farmer and Chad Gibson.
Mitchell could not be more pleased so far with what the three men have already contributed to the program.
