Jackets, Volunteers have the capability to thrive on defense

Defense could be the name of the game in Starkville this football season.
If what took place in preseason jamborees last weekend is any indication, opponents of the Starkville Yellowjackets and Starkville Academy Volunteers might not see very many points appear on their side of the scoreboard.
Both programs registered shutouts during two quarters of varsity jamboree action with Starkville Academy defeating Noxapater 34-0 on Friday night and Starkville blanking Terry 24-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Jackets and Vols were impressive defensively, but it did not appear that the competition was the greatest. The important thing was to hit against a team in an opposite color jersey.
As far as Starkville Academy, the defensive line spent many plays in the offensive backfield of Noxapater. There were two many times to count when there was a Vol right on top of a Tiger quarterback upon the snap or running back when taking a handoff.
