The word “hot” could have definitely been used to describe the weather conditions at Starkville Academy on Friday night.
However, the Volunteers also had a hot performance against Lamar, downing the Class AAA champions 42-21 to start the season 1-0.
“It’s just big (for us) to open like this,” SA head coach Jeff Terrill said. “Everyone wants to start fast and build momentum. (They) beat us very soundly at their place last year, and they were the defending state champions. They’re a team to reckon with before the season is said and done.”
