State's Ward worked hard for scholarship

August 23, 2014

Ward

DeAndre Ward came to Mississippi State in 2013 without a scholarship.
The sophomore linebacker had no scholarship offers coming out of Wetumpka High School in Alabama. He decided to see if he could walk on at MSU and he made the squad. He played in two games as a true freshman.
Ward's goal was to earn a scholarship. That dream became a reality last Sunday as head coach Dan Mullen presented Ward with a scholarship in front of the entire team.
"It's been awesome, it's a blessing and I just thank God for this opportunity," Ward said. "I had a feeling that it would eventually come, but it's just hard work."
