Cincinnati edges MSU on successful header

August 24, 2014

One head made all the difference Sunday.
After battling through almost three quarters of the match, Cincinnati's Katy Couperus, with assistance from Jae Atkinson, provided the header from a corner to give the Bearcats a 1-0 victory over Mississippi State University's women's soccer team.
"That is what makes Coup so special," Cincinnati coach Neil Stafford said. "She is one of our few players who goes by instinct. When she is doing that, you just kind of let players like Coup go and let them express themselves."
Sunday may have been a victory for Cincinnati (2-0), but according to Stafford, the Bulldogs (0-2) did not make it easy for them.
