MSU opens volleyball season looking to improve

August 28, 2014

Hazelwood

The Mississippi State volleyball team plays 15 non-conference matches to start the season.
Four of those non-conference matchups take place this weekend at the Sam Houston Invitational in Huntsville, Tex.
For the Bulldogs, it's not about playing Cal State Bakersville, Sam Houston State, Texas Pan American and Louisiana-Monroe. They want to get a good look at themselves.
"It's great for us," MSU volleyball coach Jenny Hazelwood said. "It's going to be important to see where we are, see where our strengths are and where our weaknesses are.
"Looking at rosters, we're going to be a lot taller than some of those teams and that's not uncommon, but you want to get a lot of fight, grit and determination too. I don't think any match is going to be easy. We've got to play well and our system well. We talk about that on a daily basis. We have to train at our highest level of expectation for the opponents we're going to play. We're focused on our side of the net and doing it a certain way."
