Community Thanksgiving service tonight

November 21, 2010

Annual Community Thanksgiving service scheduled tonight

The Annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Greensboro Center, which will be the first time the event has been held there.
Jeff Artigues, one of the organizers for the service, said this program was held for many years at Starkville’s First Baptist Church. Last year, it was at First United Methodist Church.
“We thought that moving it around would possibly get more churches involved,” Artigues said. “With it being held at the Greensboro Center, people will hopefully see it as a truly ecumenical service with many churches working to make it a success.”
Organizers hope to create a meaningful praise and thanksgiving service intended to bring all faiths together.
The churches involved in this year’s service are First United Methodist Church, First Baptist, the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Life Church, New Birth Christian Church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Trinity Presbyterian, Peter’s Rock Temple Church of God in Christ, and St. Joseph Catholic Church. All churches will share in leading the service.
Neddie Winters from Mission Mississippi will give the sermon at this year’s event and a representative from Helping Hands Mininstries of Oktibbeha County will speak a little about the service the agency provides to the community.
Artiques said this is also an important service to attend because it is a chance for “all of us, with so much to be thankful for, to be able to make an offering to Helping Hands, and therefore make a positive impact on the people of our community in need.”
Visitors can expect good music from First Baptist Church, Peter’s Rock Temple and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Artiques said visitors can also expect to hear a message of thanksgiving and unity, as well as a message concerning the assistance to the needy of our community.
