Joe Grayer White

Visitation for Joe Grayer White will be today from 9 to 11 a.m. with the funeral immediately following in the chapel of Welch Funeral Home. The Rev. Dickie Bryan will conduct the service.  Burial will follow at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville.
Mr. White, 91, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2010. 
Mr. White was born in Grubbs, Arkansas on June 11, 1919 to the late Joe G. and Daisy (Ray) White.  He lived in Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1939.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, seeing action with the Fifth Marine Division in Iwo Jima and other battles in the Pacific theater.
Mr. White was a former commander of the Stoy-Nash Post No. 5573 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Returning from military service, Mr. White resumed his position with Greyhound Lines in New Orleans, La., retiring after 30 years of service.
Mr. White was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lorene Wilson White; son, Joe Alan White; daughter and son-in-law, Antoinette and Clayton McHann, all of Starkville; grandson and wife, Clay and Anne McHann and great granddaughter, Madeline Grace McHann, all of Cumming, Ga.; and sister, Odessa White Rose of Louisville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Eula Mae White Ayers, Clauise White Barnhill and Burnice White Chandler; and brothers, Lawrence A. White and Murrell Ray White.
Pallbearers are John Moore, Jerry Crumpton, Bill Tatum, Bill Owen, John Lee and Gary Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers are the Fellowship Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class.
Visitation was held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church.
