BREAKING NEWS: Man dies in crash on U.S. 82, officials say

One man has been killed in an early evening accident on U.S. 82 near the Center Grove community, officials say.
Though Mississippi Highway Patrol officials have yet to release specific details, Oktibbeha County volunteer firefighters who responded to the crash say a man driving a small pickup died from injuries he suffered after hitting a large tractor-trailer from behind.
The crash occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of U.S. 82 and caused traffic in those lanes to back up as far back as the Starkville city limits, a distance of about 7 miles, officials said.
One Starkville Daily News staff member heading westbound at the time of the crash reported that traffic was completely stopped for at least a half-hour before moving along slowly.
An MHP spokesman reached by phone said more information would be released as facts of the crash were confirmed.
