The Starkville Academy Volunteers won their second-straight soccer match Friday afternoon by defeating Clarksdale-Lee Academy 5-1 at the Starkville sportsplex.
Austin Kinard had a pair of goals for the Vols, who improved to 2-3 overall, while Patrick Jones and Conner McKee had one goal each. Another shot attempt by McKee glanced off a Lee defender and went in as an own goal.
"I thought in the second half we did well as a group," Starkville Academy coach Robert Gardner said. "I'm happy with the performance, but obviously, there wasn't a lot to build on the first half. We did better in the second half."
In the last two matches, the Vols have out-scored their opponents 16-2. They beat Magnolia Heights 11-1 at home Wednesday.
Starkville Academy enters Christmas break and won't play again until Jan. 6, 2011 when it hosts Washington School.
