Both the Yellowjackets and Lady Jackets continued their strong soccer seasons by sweeping New Hope on Friday.
In the boys game, Starkville easily won 6-0 over the Trojans to improve to 9-0-1 for the season.
"We played probably some of our best soccer tonight," said SHS boys coach Brian Bennett. "Our positioning was better. Our passes were quick. (New Hope) didn't have too good of a chance tonight. We had them chasing the ball all night."
Price Day and Dillon Howard each scored two goals for Starkville in the win.
Juan Salazar and Marvin Hughes each scored one goal apiece.
In the girls game, Anna Underwood and Noa Hardin each scored goals for the Lady Jackets in a 2-0 win.
The Lady Jackets improved to 8-2 for the season, but SHS girls coach Anna Albritton says her team must learn how to play once they get a lead.
"We're playing well, but we played a whole lot better in the first half," said SHS girls coach Anna Albritton. "We got up by two, and to be honest, New Hope outplayed us in the second half. It may just be inexperience at handling being up. We've got to work on that."
Starkville is scheduled to travel to Amory today.
Girls action is slated for 3 p.m. with the boys game following at 5 p.m.
