December 16, 2010

TUPELO — Two Starkville men died in one of dozens of accidents which took place on north Mississippi’s icy roadways Wednesday as a winter storm plowed through the area.
Trooper Brian Mobley said — Dave Tate, 39, and Earnest York, 41 — were killed on U.S. Highway 45 Alternate near the Prairie community in Monroe County. Both were in a pickup driven by Tate. Mobley said the truck flipped about 5 a.m., after crossing an icy bridge. He said York was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tate was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle in Columbus, where he died.
Tate and York were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the truck, Mobley said. Two other passengers in the truck had minor injuries.
