East Webster boys dominated by Midfield, Ala.

December 19, 2010

COLUMBUS – Playing three games in three days was something East Webster boys basketball coach Corey Stidham welcomed with open arms.
The Wolverines ran into a very talented team on the back end of that stretch and lost a 70-46 decision to Midfield, Ala., at the Joe Horne Christmas Invitational on Saturday.
After only trailing 16-13 after the first quarter and 30-24 at the half, East Webster saw Midfield, Ala., pull away in the second half.
"(The officials) let us play and with the depth between us and them and they've got a little size, it caught up with us in the second half," Stidham said.
Stidham refused to use fatigue as an excuse saying, "you've got to show up and play."
Ledrick Patterson did show up and play for the Wolverines as he led all scorers with 25 points.
"He's a competitor," Stidham said of Patterson. "They had the scouting report and knew what to expect with us. He kept fighting. It was everybody fighting and same reason we were. We didn't rebound well."
Even in the loss, Stidham was pleased with the fight of his team. He tipped his hat to Midfield for being the better team on that day.
East Webster had a whirl-wind week by playing Eupora in Memphis at the FedExForum on Monday, at Houlka on Thursday, at home against Weir on Friday and Saturday in Columbus.
Stidham believes it will help the Wolverines (5-6) in the long run.
"It gets us some experience and games with some quality opponents to help us when district time comes," Stidham said. "We've got some beasts in our district so all this can do is help us."
