Mr. and Mrs. Joe Edd Cooper of Cumberland are happy to announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter, Johnnie Susan Cooper, to Chamath N. Wijewardane, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nalin Wijewardane of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Franklin Davis of Cumberland, the late Fermon Cooper and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ivis Blackwell, all of Mathiston.
She is a graduate of East Webster High School. She received her bachelorâs and masterâs degrees in nursing and her doctorate degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing in Jackson.
She is a member of Theta Beta and Zeta Rho Chapters of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
She is currently employed as an assistant professor at Mississippi University for Women, College of Nursing, Graduate Nursing Department.
She is a member of the Mississippi Nurses Association Advanced Practice Nursing Council, Mississippi Nursing Foundation Car Tag Task Force, American Nurses Association, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the American College of Nurse Practitioners.
The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Don Edmond Wijewardane and the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Abeywardena, all of Colombi, Sri Lanka.
He is a graduate of the Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State University. He is currently employed at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
The wedding is set for 2 p.m. Jan. 1, 2011 at Mantee Baptist Church in Mantee. The service will be officiated by Rev. Stephen Scott Griffin.
The reception will be held at the Mantee Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Serving as the matron of honor will be Mrs. Alison Pratt Herrington, Germantown, Tenn.
Flower girls will be Miss Jenna Claire and Miss Macey Grace Cooper, both of Mantee.
Bridesmaids will be Mrs. Coy Farley Burgess of West Point, Mrs. Janet McMullen Johnson of Johnson City, Tenn., Mrs. Gwendolyn Sprayberry Lordeon of Calhoun City, Mrs. Tonia Raines McLendon of Starkville, Mrs. Melanie Cooper Reed of Caledonia, and Krishni Wijewardane of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The best man will be Nalin K. Wijewardane of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Serving as the ring bearer will be Brady Reed of Caledonia.
Groomsmen will be Dolph Bryan, Arthur C. âSonnyâ Kelly, Rick Sharp, and Willie Wasson, all of Starkville, Brian Kittrell of Brandon, John OâKelly of Ackerman, and Eranjith Wijewardane of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Serving as ushers will be Jon Davis of Sturgis, Tom Sheward of Columbus, and Glynn Stone and Starkville.
The wedding will be under the direction of Rebecca Carter of Mantee.
The pianist will be Tracey Phillips of Madison, Tenn. The organist will be Eloise Phillips, Roswell, Ga.
Other special music will be presented by Mrs. Jana Smith, Wiggins, and the Mantee Baptist Church Handbell Choir directed by Mrs. Martha Sullivan of Mantee.
